Experiment with writing your own “Where I’m From” poem as part of a low-pressure writing activity.
We will read aloud some examples of poems based on George Ella Lyon's poem "Where I'm From," which was in turn inspired by her friend Jo Carson. The form is essentially a list of lines, most of which begin with “I am from” followed by a specific material detail, spoken phrase, or place name that has meaning to the writer.
We will write together and have an opportunity to share. Sharing is not required.
Participants will also be invited to submit their “Where I’m From” poems to Nellie at poetlaureate@nols.org to be potentially included in a future collection.
All ages are welcome.
The Clallam County Poet Laureate position is supported by the North Olympic Library Foundation and Clallam County.
