Experience nature in a new way with nature journaling at Elk Creek Conservation Area.
Spend an afternoon exploring your curiosity and creativity as you observe the plants, animals, and insects that inhabit Elk Creek.
Local bookbinder Pamela Hunter will join us to share ways to personalize your journal, and provide other tips and tricks to enhance your nature journaling experience.
Meet at the parking area at 1:00pm to grab a nature journal or learn how to create one before heading out on the trail.
Waivers are required for participation in this program; please sign a waiver when you arrive.
The 255-acre Elk Creek Conservation Area in Forks offers beautiful regenerating forests along a tributary of the Calawah River called Elk Creek. The trail is 2.6 miles out and back along a mix of gravel and natural surfaces, with a small section of 10% grade.
Pamela Hunter has been binding books since the '90s, when she started having to find ways to contain her calligraphy. She began teaching book binding in 2000. Before moving to Forks, she worked in a book bindery for a year in Connecticut. Journaling has become increasingly important to her, and she makes the journals she uses for writing and drawing. She also makes field journals for her husband's work. Sometimes those books use recycled materials or fine papers. In addition to book binding, she also creates paste paper art, marbles paper and cloth, and makes silk paper.
