Create origami cranes Monday through Friday at the Forks Library, 3–4:30pm.
Each weekday afternoon in January, Pam and John Hunter will provide a guided opportunity to create origami paper cranes. The goal is to create 1,000 cranes by February 1 to symbolize peace and honor people who have positively impacted the Forks community.
All supplies are provided and a tea station will be available.
The Forks Branch Library's 1,000 Origami Cranes are a tribute to longtime patron Yasmine Arlin Lahr. This program is supported in part by the Friends of Forks Library.
Please note the library will be closed on Thursday, January 1 & Monday, January 19 in observance of federal holidays.
About 1,000 Origami Cranes:
In Japanese culture, cranes are often thought of as a symbol of long life and peace. Paper cranes are often given to a person who is seriously ill to wish for their recovery. They are usually created by friends, classmates, or colleagues as a collective effort to honor a person. The book Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes popularized the creation of 1,000 origami cranes when it was published in the late '70s.
