Learn about Bainbridge Island's unique experience during World War II.
Visit the Forks Branch Library for a livestreamed viewing of a presentation by Ellen Sato Faust, the Executive Director of the Bainbridge Island Japanese American Exclusion Memorial Association. She will discuss the 1942 removal of 227 Bainbridge Island residents who were forced to leave behind the lives they had built when they were herded off the island by soldiers. Under President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Executive Order 9066 and Civilian Exclusion Order No. 1, the Bainbridge Island Japanese Americans became the first in the nation to face exclusion from the West Coast.
